Already, he's trying to learn how to sit up. When I sit him up against the sofa, he tries to sit forward enough so he's sitting up all by himself. His balance is getting much better, he no longer just slumps off to the side but keeps himself upright.
His smiles are even more frequent. He's so social, he wants constant face to face interaction. Sometimes when I can't figure out what he wants, when I change him, feed him, walk him, put him in his swing, etc and he's still crying, I find just sitting with him and having him close face to face with me will make him happy. He loves to babble, coo and giggle while studying my face.
He is becoming such a mommy's boy! When he wakes up in his swing and calls for me and then sees me walk over, he breaks out in a huge smile. When I hand him to Bill, he'll be fine until I walk away - then he starts to scream. He would rather be laying near me where he can see me than being held by anyone else. It's so odd, Katie was never like this. She never had a problem spending time with Daddy, or swinging for a while as I took a shower. Even though she had 100% of my attention and time, she didn't need it. She was fine with her daddy too. (Though her skin wasn't - it's funny that the child who was allergic to Bill was the one more attached to him. Will doesn't have the same allergic reaction but he wants only one person!) Now that Katie is 2 1/2, Daddy is her best buddy. She adores her Daddy. If she has to choose between spending time with me or spending time with him, she'll choose him. It works out really well now, since Will takes up my arms so often because he wants me, Katie doesn't feel left out because she'd rather be with Bill anyway.
Will's absolute favorite thing is to be swaddled, another opposite of Katie who absolutely hated it and would enrage her. The last few days when I start to swaddle him, he'll realize what I'm doing and break out in a huge smile. He so enjoys being so wrapped up! I realized last week that while he doesn't mind sleeping away from me at all (which is so odd, as when he's awake he wants to be with me. Katie didn't mind not having me while awake, but when going to sleep she wanted to always be curled up in my arms) he hates feeling like he's all over the place. When I lay him in the crib right now, he'll start to flail about with his arms. If he's sleeping, he'll startle awake and cry. But I can't let him sleep swaddled in the big blankets, as he enjoys nuzzling his face into them, and he'll slide down into it until he covers his face. To fix this, I decided to finally get a woombie to swaddle him safely. I think he'll really enjoy it, and we'll both be able to sleep much better at night.
This is what the woombie I bought looks like. I ended up splurging on a good one, as we had the cheap velcro ones with Katie. Before she was even at this stage, she was easily breaking through them and unwrapping herself. Will is even bigger than she was, so I skipped the cheap ones and went for the nice zipper kind that also has ventilation. Plus, I really like the looks of it! It's cute and gender neutral for further use.
I spent an hour last night going through pictures from when Katie was a newborn to now. I couldn't believe how, in so many pictures, she looks EXACTLY like Will. If you take off her bows, her pink outfits, and her long curly hair, you wouldn't be able to tell if it was her or Will. I have a feeling they're going to look VERY alike when they're older! I'm thinking Will might have even lighter hair than Katie, as hers starting off almost black and turned golden around 3-4 months old. Will started off with a light brown color, and the new hair that's growing is already so light. You can't even see his eyebrows unless in direct light because they're a platinum color. I'm waiting to see if his eyes are going to turn green like Katie's or stay blue. I think they would have started to get darker if they were going to turn brown, but they're a medium blue. Just like Katie, he has a very light color around his pupils - Katie's turned yellow for a year before finally mixing with the blue to turn green. His is still a very, very light blue, almost an off white color.
