This blog goes through quite a few title changes as time goes on! In the beginning, it was "Seeking Our Rainbow". When we found that rainbow much sooner than we had thought we would, it became "Growing Our Rainbow" through pregnancy. Now it's Raising Our Rainbow, now that our rainbow is here in our arms. It's been a wonderful little journey.
This is truly the happiest baby I've ever seen. Sure, he's a total cranky grump when he's resisting sleep, but he's a little joy at any other time. He is constantly giggling, cooing, and showing us big gummy smiles. He's so desperately trying to talk. He makes the craziest little noises while contorting his mouth in funny little ways. I'm sure he's going to be an early talker. He's so eager!
I'm definitely starting to see that amazing little boy love for his mommy. There's something about the way he is with me that is different than with Katie. Katie has always been my little buddy, but it's like with Will, I am the center of his universe. He loves no one like he loves me. Katie wasn't like that, especially now she is 100% Daddy's girl. She's now his buddy, she'll ditch me in a second to spend time with him. But as a baby, she was always fine just hanging out with him so I could get a shower or get things done. Not with Will though. Will wants me and only me. He looks at me with an adoration that I could soak in for the rest of my life if I could.
Having one of each is really the best thing ever. I have SO much fun with Katie. She's my princess, my girly girl, the one who wants nail polish and tutus and dresses and chap stick. She's everything I've ever wanted in a girl, complete with loving Disney movies that she wants to watch over and over again and singing every single song in it. She loves to dance and she's going to be a great little ballerina one day.
And then there's Will, my little bruiser chunk who makes it clear that Mommy is the only one he wants. He's the happiest little thing and he loves being in my arms as much as I love to cuddle him. He's my little super hero. He's my silly little Rainbow who adores his mommy.
I'm so thrilled that I get the opportunity to both have my princess girly girl and my Mommy's boy!
Speaking of which, he's going to be THREE MONTHS OLD tomorrow. It makes me want to cry. How are these months going by so quickly?? He's growing so fast. He's barely an infant anymore. He's changed so quickly and so much in the last few weeks. He's an exploring, curious baby who barely resembles a three month old. He's trying to crawl by sticking his toes in the floor and pushing himself along. He continually tries to sit up unassisted. He wants to talk. He has a rolling giggle. He enjoys Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and chatting with his sister. He has things he always likes and things he dislikes and he has these little opinions about things now! My little boy is already growing up!

Catch up!
It's been almost two weeks since my last post. I've been SO busy! I started up my hat business again, where I'm hoping to make one big hat project each week (I'm going for more elaborate designs this year). Will keeps me up and moving at all times, and when he finally naps, it's Katie's turn to keep me running!
Will got his doctor appointment last week and he is now off the charts in both weight and height! He's doing great health wise. He got his Hep B and his DtaP, which he didn't cry at all for and took them both really well. Later that day he had a rough time and was really sore, but he recovered quickly after that. As of March 11th, he was 16 lbs, 8oz and 25.5 inches tall!
He's such a happy little baby right now! He loves to chatter, he has such an adorable rolling giggle, and he adores his big sister. He's so interactive! He's now interested in toys, he loves to hold things in his hands and chew on things. I'm wondering if he's starting to teethe, as he now chews on me, his fists, and his toys all the time plus being extra drooly.
We got him an activity mat today! I never got Katie one because she used to use the swing and bouncer mobiles instead, but he hates swings and bouncers. But both of the kids love it. I got him a King Size activity mat (I know, I had no idea they had them either! But it's good, because I was looking at normal sized ones and thinking he wouldn't fit. Just like how I need to find a bigger baby tub for him, because he's now squished shoulder to shoulder in his current one. Katie used that until she was a year old!!) because Katie and the baby both fit in there. Katie loves it just as much as he does!
Will is starting to sit up on his own. When I try to prop him up on the sofa, he leans himself forward until he's unsupported and tries to stay that way as long as possible. He's doing really well! It took Katie until she was 5-6 months to sit up independently, so I have no idea what this little guy is up to already!

Postpartum Checkup
I had my "6 week" appointment today (at 10 weeks PP). Luckily Will sat really well for it, because I ended up filling out paperwork for a half hour. It felt like I was in school again taking a test! It took forever and I didn't know half the answers. There were questions (and the midwife and her assistant were both asking about it while I was trying to fill it out) like back when they were discovering that I had cancer, did they give me a pap smear to help diagnose? I dunno, I was busy being traumatized by having a giant tumor and being told I had cancer! How would I remember if one of the million tests they performed on me included a pap and what the results were? I was so flustered, I couldn't remember if the mathematical symbol ">" meant greater than or less than, and very nearly marked that I had more than 10 sexual partners (yeah, that would have been a little awkward!)
The good news though is I am at a good weight (now down to 128 lbs fully clothed), everything healed up fine and looks normal, and the midwife said I am already getting my abs back when she checked, which she said is a great sign.
They also wanted to know about how the breastfeeding was going. They asked if I was sore or had any nipple problems, which I said no to, and then they asked if I was having any difficulties or a low supply. Half way through her question though, the midwife noticed Will and said "oh...he's got to be like 13 lbs already, isn't he?" I told her that when he was checked a little over a week ago, he was a little over 15 lbs. Her eyes bulged a bit and then said "I guess we'll just skip over the nursing difficulty questions, you're obviously not having any!" It's the same thing the pediatrician said when she saw his weight. Will is one chunky monkey!

9 Weeks Old
Will is now 9 weeks old. He's growing so quickly!
Already, he's trying to learn how to sit up. When I sit him up against the sofa, he tries to sit forward enough so he's sitting up all by himself. His balance is getting much better, he no longer just slumps off to the side but keeps himself upright.
His smiles are even more frequent. He's so social, he wants constant face to face interaction. Sometimes when I can't figure out what he wants, when I change him, feed him, walk him, put him in his swing, etc and he's still crying, I find just sitting with him and having him close face to face with me will make him happy. He loves to babble, coo and giggle while studying my face.
He is becoming such a mommy's boy! When he wakes up in his swing and calls for me and then sees me walk over, he breaks out in a huge smile. When I hand him to Bill, he'll be fine until I walk away - then he starts to scream. He would rather be laying near me where he can see me than being held by anyone else. It's so odd, Katie was never like this. She never had a problem spending time with Daddy, or swinging for a while as I took a shower. Even though she had 100% of my attention and time, she didn't need it. She was fine with her daddy too. (Though her skin wasn't - it's funny that the child who was allergic to Bill was the one more attached to him. Will doesn't have the same allergic reaction but he wants only one person!) Now that Katie is 2 1/2, Daddy is her best buddy. She adores her Daddy. If she has to choose between spending time with me or spending time with him, she'll choose him. It works out really well now, since Will takes up my arms so often because he wants me, Katie doesn't feel left out because she'd rather be with Bill anyway.
Will's absolute favorite thing is to be swaddled, another opposite of Katie who absolutely hated it and would enrage her. The last few days when I start to swaddle him, he'll realize what I'm doing and break out in a huge smile. He so enjoys being so wrapped up! I realized last week that while he doesn't mind sleeping away from me at all (which is so odd, as when he's awake he wants to be with me. Katie didn't mind not having me while awake, but when going to sleep she wanted to always be curled up in my arms) he hates feeling like he's all over the place. When I lay him in the crib right now, he'll start to flail about with his arms. If he's sleeping, he'll startle awake and cry. But I can't let him sleep swaddled in the big blankets, as he enjoys nuzzling his face into them, and he'll slide down into it until he covers his face. To fix this, I decided to finally get a woombie to swaddle him safely. I think he'll really enjoy it, and we'll both be able to sleep much better at night.
This is what the woombie I bought looks like. I ended up splurging on a good one, as we had the cheap velcro ones with Katie. Before she was even at this stage, she was easily breaking through them and unwrapping herself. Will is even bigger than she was, so I skipped the cheap ones and went for the nice zipper kind that also has ventilation. Plus, I really like the looks of it! It's cute and gender neutral for further use.

I spent an hour last night going through pictures from when Katie was a newborn to now. I couldn't believe how, in so many pictures, she looks EXACTLY like Will. If you take off her bows, her pink outfits, and her long curly hair, you wouldn't be able to tell if it was her or Will. I have a feeling they're going to look VERY alike when they're older! I'm thinking Will might have even lighter hair than Katie, as hers starting off almost black and turned golden around 3-4 months old. Will started off with a light brown color, and the new hair that's growing is already so light. You can't even see his eyebrows unless in direct light because they're a platinum color. I'm waiting to see if his eyes are going to turn green like Katie's or stay blue. I think they would have started to get darker if they were going to turn brown, but they're a medium blue. Just like Katie, he has a very light color around his pupils - Katie's turned yellow for a year before finally mixing with the blue to turn green. His is still a very, very light blue, almost an off white color.
