Will had his check up today, and he's doing great! At 5 1/2 weeks old, he already weighs nearly 14 lbs! He's 13 lbs, 12 oz and 23.5 inches long. He's currently tipping the scales at the 97th% tile in weight and 90th% tile in height, so he's very proportionate in his large-ness! I love that he's so big! The doctor also checked out his heart, lungs, etc and said everything looks great. I'm so happy that I'm able to provide so well and nurture him so completely! The fact that my body alone can keep up with him and let him gain an entire pound a week minimum every week since birth is just amazing to me.
We skipped his shots today, as they only had the Hep B scheduled for him and said that it's perfectly fine to wait on it and that he doesn't need it right now. Since I don't like the idea of him getting shots so early (with Katie we waited until two and three months) I was fine with agreeing to wait. The only shots I was fine with getting shots for pertussis or rotovirus since so much is going around right now, but since they weren't scheduled until next month, I wasn't going to push them for now.
The other neat thing about today is the kids went to the doctor in their Elmo and Cookie Monster fuzzy hats. Will grew out of his store bought hats a while ago, so I found the Cookie Monster hat I made months ago and made it bigger last night. One nurse saw the hats and kept saying how adorable they were and how I should sell them, then asked to take the hats into the office to show everyone. When I told her that I do sell them, she told our doctor. The doctor then suggested that we bring in an advertisement for my online store with a picture of my hats so that they can post it on the waiting room's bulletin. Since they have a big client base of all children, this would be GREAT for me to do! I told them I'll be bringing one in at his next check up, which coincides with when I'll be able to open my store again.
Idk if you've ever noticed, but the rotavirus vaccine makers reccomend not giving breastmilk for 48 hours before/after the oral vaccine because breastmilk actually kills the vaccine...so it's kinda pointless unless you're gonna give him formula for 4 days! Lol but that's according to Dr Sears vaccine book, so it could be slightly outdated info...
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard that! They never mentioned it last time with Katie, even though I was breastfeeding while they did her other shots like a minute before giving her the oral rotovirus vax. I'll have to ask about it before having them give it to him. I'd rather not give needless stuff!
