Will turned two years old today!
Even though he still bears the affectionate nickname of "Baby", he officially no longer is one. He's a proper little toddler, a terrible two's troublemaker, my little boy.
My little train obsessed William had his fill of trains today. I woke up while everyone was still asleep to decorate the whole downstairs in decorations, everything from banners, posters, print outs and trains signs. I put a Birthday Boy badge with Thomas on it over his chair, and put his Thomas costume as a slip cover on his chair. Before waking him up and dressing him in Thomas clothing, I put the soundtrack on so he could come down the stairs with the theme song playing. He was in heaven! All day long he pointed to the decorations hanging up and wanted to talk about each one. He loved being surrounded by his favorite things!
He had a happy day, enjoying the combination of his Christmas gifts and his birthday gifts. We tried to take him to the toy store to pick out a few toys with his birthday money, but he fell asleep so we went to the grocery store and picked out ingredients for his favorite meal. I made him Stouffers mac and cheese (which is just like the Disney Cruise mac and cheese that he loves so much), hot dogs and popcorn shrimp, followed of course by a Thomas the Train birthday cake (where Katie insisted on being the sole Happy Birthday singer). All of the dinner items are treats we rarely have, so we all enjoyed them!
For his birthday, he got a Melissa and Doug pizza/cake set with Mickey and Friends characters on it. He LOVES to pretend cook in his little kitchen and he loves Mickey on everything, so it was a big hit. He also got a big storybook of Thomas stories for bedtime reading. His big gift was a large ride on train from Vtech, that sings, helps learn letters, numbers and colors, has lots of little games and play things all over it, and can transform into three different possibilities. Both he and Katie loved this one!
He went all day without nursing a single time. It may be a first! I was so busy that I never had a moment to do so, and he was busy with all of his new toys to think about it. Then we were running around out of the house, so there was obviously no opportunity there. He did so well, I'm hoping this continues.
He's starting to learn to just cuddle to sleep for naps. Usually at night he's too against sleeping to go to sleep easily, but naps overtake him and he's fine with just climbing into my lap and letting me hold him for a minute or two and he'll be out like a light. Nursing only at night would be a big improvement! I think I'll start trying to wake up before he does so I can eliminate morning nursing too. Slowly, he is weaning and making big improvements. Just two weeks ago, he was nursing every hour. Now it's down to nighttime and sometimes once a day.
