Will, 19 days before his second birthday

Will is just 19 days shy of turning 2! I can't believe it in so many ways. He acts much older than his age, honestly it seems like he's been at least two for many months now. But at the same time, it seems crazy that time has flown by so much. Especially since his birthday is in the Christmas season, it seems like such a short time ago. Didn't we just decorate the tree in preparation for him coming last year?

He's such a perfect little boy. I love how different he is from Katie, it's so much fun to have kids that give you such different dynamics. This little boy is obsessed with trains, trucks, anything with wheels that has a loud engine. He loves animals that ROAR. He loves to take things apart, climb, and get dirty. He loves to tackle and wrestle. He's the perfect counterpart to Katie, my wonderful girly girl. Both are the children I always dreamt of.

Even better, both of them love to cook!

At 18 months old, I wanted to start weaning Will. At that point, I was over nursing totally. However, Will had other ideas and I wanted to give him the option of having two years since that's what the World Health Organization always recommends and I know that it's only beneficial. However for me, I've been totally over it this whole time and really want a break! Especially when you consider that I only had three months out of 4 1/2 years that I haven't been breastfeeding. A break is needed!

It's been becoming more and more aggravating to me and with his birthday only two weeks away, I started being much more strict with weaning. Will wants to nurse roughly once every 20 minutes. So there's A LOT of feedings to drop. Instead of dropping just one or two at a time, I'm slaying many. I let him nurse to sleep at nap and bedtime. When he wakes up at 4-5 AM, I let him nurse back to sleep, but I don't let him hang on me. He has always tried to nurse all night long, but I'd now rather be tired than be chewed on. During the day I give him plenty of food, snacks and juice to redirect him to. When he gets hurt he always asks to nurse, but I've been trying to substitute just cuddles and attention instead.

So far it's working alright. He still asks constantly, but now that it's been three days, he gives up a bit easier. Sometimes he tricks me and says he wants a nap but instead nurses for two minutes and pops off to go play. It's still a big improvement though. Instead of nursing at least once an hour, he's now nursing only a few times a day, including his nap.

I can't wait for him to be fully weaned. With Katie, I felt a bit guilty and thought I'd miss it. But after all this time, I'm just fine with weaning. I know with two full years, I did my part, my job in this aspect is done. I'm hoping that within a month, he completely stops.
